Early Childhood Certification Course
The Certification courses held at PHMTEC consist of well thought out sessions, taught by qualified individuals, and provide a course of study for Montessori Educators that leads to teacher certification for the Early Childhood (2.5 through 6 years) levels.
Infant Toddler Certification Course
The Certification courses held at PHMTEC consist of well thought out sessions, taught by qualified individuals, and provide a course of study for Montessori Educators that leads to teacher certification for the Infant Toddler (0 through 3 years) levels.
For Both Courses:
The Academic Phase, courses taught during two summers, and weekend sessions during the school year. Includes on campus academic course work, guided observation experience, and practice labs. This will include two summer session and several weekend seminars.
All residency lectures and practice labs will take place at 2355 Nebraska Ave. Palm Harbor, FL 34683 and 1961 East Lake Rd., Palm Harbor, Fl 34685
Training will be held at Palm Harbor Montessori Academy. The school has two beautiful campuses and is situated on five acres. The West Lake campus serves children from ages one through eighth grade and the East lake campus serves toddlers and primary age children.
Practice Learning Phase
Will consist of informal lectures, reading and written assignments, discussion questions, special projects, and independent and supervised practice time. The student should expect to spend a minimum of 10 hours per week on the on-going course work, which will take place throughout the year between the two summer sessions.
Practicum Phase, a supervised internship, ongoing practice sessions, assignments, and special sessions.
Students will complete an internship in an approved Montessori Early Childhood classroom with guidance from a certified and experienced Montessori supervising teacher or mentor. The internship must consist of at least a half-day; five days per week during the Montessori work cycle and take place over nine consecutive months during the school year. The Practicum Phase will also include observations in both the internship classroom and other Montessori classrooms.
Child age range for which the course prepares:
The Early Childhood Course prepares the student teacher to teach 2.5 through 6 year old children. The Infant Toddler Course prepares the student teacher to teach 0 through 3 year old children.
